Hello, I’m Marie Gamez, and I’m here to talk to you about ICS 100, Computing Literacy and Applications. ICS 100 is required by many of the associate in science programs here at Kapi`olani Community College. ICS 100 is a basic information literacy course, covering information technology concepts and terminology, as well as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software. Students study not only hardware, software, the Internet, and basic telecommunications, but also various society and technology issues. This covers topics like privacy, how to protect your electronic devices, digital ethics, and ergonomics. Students may also create basic web pages. Many students report that they wish they took this class at the beginning of their college career since they learn so many useful time-savers for other classes. Of course, that learning eventually carries over to their professional lives also. Thank you.
