Marketing Degree & Certificates

The Business, Legal and Technology (BLT) Education Department offers a degree and five certificates for students interested in the marketing program. The advising sheets provide a detailed list of courses required to complete a degree or certificate.

Associate in Science Degree, Marketing (60 credits/20 courses)

  • The associate in science (AS) degree is a 60-credit program that prepares students for a career in marketing and management.
  • Students take courses in marketing, management, and business to gain skills that they can apply in the workplace. The program is practice-based and is appropriate for students seeking a career in marketing as well as for professionals seeking to upgrade their skills in customer service, management, marketing, and retailing.
  • As a capstone to the marketing degree, students enroll in an internship course where they gain actual job experience while earning credits towards graduation.
  • The AS degree articulates to the University of Hawai`i-West Oahu toward a bachelor of arts in business administration with a concentration in marketing. An advisor may provide detailed information about the courses required or recommended for articulation

Certificate of Achievement, Retail Management (33 credits/11 courses)

  • The certificate of achievement (CA) is a 33-credit program that incorporates principles, concepts and technical skills that lead students to competence in the field of retail management.
  • This certificate is designed to prepare current and future retail employees so they are better prepared to fill the numerous and varied management opportunities that are available in the retail industry.
  • The courses in this program satisfy the requirements of the Western Association of Food Chains retail management certificate.
  • All CA courses apply to the associate in science degree in marketing.

Certificate of Competence, Customer Service (15 credits/5 courses)

  • The certificate of competence (CO) is a 15-credit department certificate awarded to students who complete courses that provide specific job-related skills in customer service.
  • This certificate is designed for the novice or professional businessperson who has minimal or no experience in managing customer relationships. This certificate is appropriate for upgrading the customer relationship skills necessary in any profession dealing with customer relationships.
  • All CO courses apply to the associate in science degree in marketing.

Certificate of Competence, Entrepreneurship (9 credits/3 courses)

  • The certificate of competence (CO) is a 9-credit department certificate awarded to students who complete prescribed courses in entrepreneurship.
  • This certificate is designed for individuals with minimal or no experience in business and is appropriate for people interested in getting an overview to starting a small business.
  • All CO courses do not apply to the associate in science degree in marketing.

Certificate of Competence, Management (9 credits/3 courses)

  • The certificate of competence (CO) is a 9-credit department certificate awarded to students who complete courses that provide specific job-related skills in management.
  • The courses introduce students to principles of supervision, organizational behavior, and human resource management.
  • The certificate is appropriate for upgrading managerial skills of industry members or for a focus in marketing.
  • All CO courses apply to the associate in science degree in marketing.

Certificate of Competence, Retailing (9 credits/3 courses)

  • The certificate of competence (CO) is a 9-credit department certificate awarded to students who complete courses that provide specific job-related skills in retailing.
  • The courses introduce students to basic marketing, retailing, and customer service principles and practices.
  • The certificate is also for those in the retail profession who would like to upgrade their skills.
  • All CO courses apply to the associate in science degree in marketing.
